We have been abandoned. The Biden Administration has failed Texans. By ignoring our border crisis, President Biden and the so-called "Border Czar," Vice President Kamala Harris, are signaling that our nation's sovereignty and security are not White House priorities.
Recently, I met Del Rio with State Rep. Brooks Landgraf and State Rep. Andrew Murr, as well as Sheriff Griffis of Ector County, and Kevin Sparks. During our trip, we learned that the Del Rio sector saw more illegal migrant crossings in 2021 than in the last nine years combined.
President Biden and his administration refuse to acknowledge the border crisis, resist implementing key security programs, and continue to encourage illegal crossings through their rhetoric and policies.
In September, I visited the wave of nearly 15 thousand illegal immigrants who were gathered under the Del Rio Bridge. What many told me is that the U.S. border was easier to cross than the borders of Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Mexico. This is unacceptable, and a direct result of the Biden Administration's short-sighted border policies.
You can see the impact on dangerous encounters, human trafficking tragedies, dangerous high-speed chases, property damage that harms Texas farmers and ranchers, tragic deaths from exposure, and breaches where illicit drugs, such as fentanyl, are seeping into our country.
New numbers report that not only is fentanyl pouring into our country at ever-higher rates, but that drugs are even more dangerous than before. Tragically, fentanyl has become the leading cause of death in Americans ages 18 to 45. Last year alone, Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) seized enough fentanyl across the border to kill every American seven times.
Texans should be incredibly alarmed by this chaos emanating from President Biden's failed policies. We've been urging the White House to take the border crisis seriously for more than a year. Our pleas have been ignored. The critical legislation has been shelved by Democratic leaders in the House of Representatives. Texans have been abandoned and left to fend for themselves.
While President Biden and Vice President Harris refuse to even set foot on the southern border, Texans are standing up to fix it.
Without our honorable TX DPS officers and state law enforcement officials protecting us, things at the border would be even worse. I am grateful for the work of my colleagues in the Texas Legislature, Representative Landgraf, Representative Murr, President Craddick, and others, for their work in passing Operation Lone Star and providing resources to secure the Texas border.
But Texas shouldn't have to do it alone. I will continue to present common-sense border solutions in Congress to protect the safety of communities throughout TX-11 and across the nation.
I am proud to join ranked member Katko and my colleagues on the Homeland Security Committee in offering a bill with comprehensive border security solutions. Also, I will introduce legislation in the coming days to require the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to tell the American people how many known and suspected terrorists have been apprehended at the border.
The federal government cannot play political games with our security and immigration laws. We must return to the policies that we know work to stem the flow of illegal immigration and regain operational control of our southern border. The American people deserve transparency and assurances that their government is doing everything it can to keep them safe.
To any Democrat in Congress or in the White House: I implore you to come to the border with me. See the suffering for yourself and work with us to fix it.

Recientemente, visité Del Río con el representante estatal Brooks Landgraf y el representante estatal Andrew Murr, así como con el Sheriff Griffis del condado de Ector, y Kevin Sparks. Durante nuestro viaje, nos enteramos de que el sector de Del Río vio más cruces de migrantes ilegales en 2021 que en los últimos nueve años combinados.
Presidente Biden y su administración se niegan a reconocer la crisis fronteriza, se resisten implementar programas claves de seguridad, y continúan alentando los cruces ilegales a través de su retórica y políticas.
En septiembre, visité la oleada de casi 15 miles de inmigrantes ilegales que fueron reunidos bajo el puente de Del Río. Lo que muchos me dijeron es que la frontera de Estados Unidos era más fácil de atravesar que las fronteras de Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador y México. Texanos deberían estar increíblemente alarmados por este caos que emana de las políticas falladas del presidente Biden. Hemos estado instando a la Casa Blanca a tomar en serio la crisis fronteriza por más que un año. Nuestras súplicas han sido ignoradas. La legislación crítica ha sido dejada de lado por los líderes demócratas de la Cámara de Representantes. Los texanos han sido abandonados y dejados para valer por sí mismos.
Mientras presidente Biden y la vicepresidenta Harris se niegan a siquiera poner un pie en la frontera del sur, Texanos están levantando de pie para solucionarlo.
Sin nuestros honorables oficiales de TX DPS y los oficiales estatales de la ley protegiéndonos, las cosas en la frontera serían aún peores. Estoy agradecido por el trabajo de mis colegas en la Legislatura de Texas, el Representante Landgraf, el Representante Murr, el presidente Craddick y otros, por su trabajo para aprobar la Operación Lone Star y proporcionar recursos para asegurar la frontera de Texas.
Pero Texas no debería tener que hacerlo solo. Continuaré presentar soluciones fronterizas de sentido común en el Congreso para proteger la seguridad de las comunidades por todo TX-11 y por toda la nación.
Estoy orgulloso de unirme al miembro de rango Katko y mis colegas en el Comité de Seguridad Nacional para ofrecer un proyecto de ley con soluciones comprehensivas de seguridad fronteriza. También, presentaré legislación en los próximos días para requerir que el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional (DHS) le diga al pueblo estadounidense cuántos terroristas conocidos y presuntos han sido detenidos en la frontera.
El gobierno federal no puede jugar juegos políticos con nuestras leyes de seguridad e inmigración. Debemos volver a las políticas que sabemos que funcionan para detener el flujo de inmigración ilegal y recuperar el control operativo de nuestra frontera de sur. El pueblo estadounidense merece transparencia y seguridades que su gobierno está haciendo todo lo posible para mantenerlos salvos.
