What Does the Bible Say?

People sometimes excuse what they say by saying, “I was just talking” or “they are just words”. What does the Bible say?

“Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, for you know that we who teach shall be judged with greater strictness. For we all make many mistakes, and if any one makes no mistakes in what he says he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also. If we put bits into the mouths of horses that they may obey us, we guide their whole bodies. Look at the ships also; though they are so great and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So the tongue is a little member and boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by a small fire!” James 3:1-5

From this scripture we learn we should be serious about what we say because there are consequences to what I say.

1. If I have any kind of authority as a teacher, parent, friend I will be judged with a higher standard by God. Parents more than children, teacher more than students, preachers more than listeners. James 3:1-2

2. All sin is serious but sins that are in your heart and mind are limited to one person. This is bad enough but sins with our mouth are broadcast and affect others. The farther it goes the more people are involved the bigger it is.

¿Qué dice la Biblia?

La gente a veces excusa lo que dice diciendo: "Solo estaba hablando" o "Son solo palabras". ¿Qué dice la Biblia?

“Hermanos míos, no os hagáis maestros muchos de vosotros, pues sabéis que los que enseñamos seremos juzgados con mayor severidad. Porque todos cometemos muchos errores, y si alguno no se equivoca en lo que dice, es hombre perfecto, capaz incluso de refrenar todo el cuerpo. Si ponemos freno en la boca de los caballos para que nos obedezcan, guiamos todo su cuerpo. Miren también las naves; aunque son tan grandes y son impulsadas por fuertes vientos, son guiadas con un timón muy pequeño por donde la voluntad del piloto las dirige. Así también la lengua es un miembro pequeño y se jacta de grandes cosas. ¡Qué gran bosque se incendia con un fuego pequeño!” (Santiago 3:1-5)

De esta escritura aprendemos que debemos ser serios con lo que decimos porque lo que digo tiene consecuencias.

1. Si tengo algún tipo de autoridad como maestro, padre o amigo, Dios me juzgará con un estándar más alto. Padres más que hijos, maestros más que alumnos, predicadores más que oyentes. Santiago 3:1-2

2. Todo pecado es grave, pero los pecados que se manifiestan en el corazón y la mente se limitan a una sola persona. Esto ya es bastante malo, pero los pecados que se cometen con la boca se propagan y afectan a otros. Cuanto más se extiende, más personas se involucran, más grave es.
