Family Weekend Breakfast with the President and First Lady on Saturday, September 23, 2023.

SAN ANGELO – Angelo State University President, Ronnie Hawkins, Jr. and his wife, Maria hosted the annual, Fall Family Weekend Breakfast with the President and First Lady as they met with Angelo State University students and their parents in the CJ Davidson Center.
President Hawkins and First Lady Maria welcomed the Ram Fam members and their families with news of ASU’s record-breaking 11, 267 registered college students, and the largest freshman class ever.
Hawkins also mentioned there were sophomores, juniors and senior high school students who were taking dual credit classes at ASU. “We thank you for sending your sons and daughters here to Angelo State. Our number one focus here is for our students to graduate.”
Among the families to attend the 9 a.m. Saturday, September 23 breakfast was Sanya Hitch, mother of ASU sophomore, Jaiden. Jaiden, a Mass Media major, is also a member of ASU’s Band. Sanya was asked how did her son end up at ASU. She stated they had visited the university at one time and liked the predominately Hispanic culture atmosphere.
First Lady, Maria also spoke briefly on what was dear to her heart, the Ram Pantry. The Pantry, located in the Houston Harte University Center, addresses immediate food needs for students on campus. It provides free non-perishable food items and toiletries for ASU students in need.
“There might be times when you will be short at the end of the month on your budget. Please if you need food, go to the Ram Pantry food bank,” concluded Mrs. Hawkins.

SAN ANGELO – El presidente de Angelo State University, Ronnie Hawkins, Jr. y su esposa, María, organizaron el desayuno anual de fin de semana familiar de otoño con el presidente y la primera dama mientras se reunían con estudiantes de Angelo State University y sus padres en el Centro CJ Davidson.
El Presidente Hawkins y la Primera Dama María dieron la bienvenida a los miembros de Ram Fam y sus familias con noticias de que ASU batió el récord de 11.267 estudiantes universitarios registrados y la clase de primer año más grande de la historia.
Hawkins también mencionó que había estudiantes de segundo, tercer y último año de secundaria que estaban tomando clases de crédito dual en ASU. “Le agradecemos por enviar a sus hijos e hijas aquí al estado de Angelo. Nuestro principal objetivo aquí es que nuestros estudiantes se gradúen”.
Entre las familias que asistieron al desayuno de las 9 a. m. del sábado 23 de septiembre se encontraba Sanya Hitch, madre del estudiante de segundo año de ASU, Jaiden. Jaiden, especialista en medios de comunicación, también es miembro de la banda de ASU. Le preguntaron a Sanya cómo terminó su hijo en ASU. Ella dijo que habían visitado la universidad en algún momento y les gustó el ambiente de cultura predominantemente hispana.
La Primera Dama, María, también habló brevemente sobre lo que le era más querido: Ram Pantry. The Pantry, ubicado en el Houston Harte University Center, aborda las necesidades alimentarias inmediatas de los estudiantes en el campus. Proporciona artículos de tocador y alimentos no perecederos gratuitos para los estudiantes de ASU que los necesitan.
“Puede haber ocasiones en las que al final del mes te quedes corto de presupuesto. Por favor, si necesita comida, vaya al banco de alimentos Ram Pantry”, concluyó la señora Hawkins.
