SAN ANGELO – Angelo State University’s 2020 Christmas tree lighting for the first time in its brief nine year history was held via a virtual online ceremony because of the pandemic.
One other major obvious change took place when the previous 15-footer tree was replaced with a new 23-footer that was unveiled at a familiar spot – in the Memorial Oak Grove in front of the Mayer Administration Building at 2601 W. Ave. N.
This year’s Dec. 1, 2020 online festivity, activities included:
· A Holiday Pops Concert by members of the ASU Symphony Orchestra. Some of the traditional Christmas music played was “A Suite of Carols,” “Hark The Herald Angels Sing,” “Silent Night,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” and “Away In A Manger.”
Holiday greetings were pre-recorded from ASU administrators such as Dr. Javier Flores, Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment, and Lt. General (Ret.) and the new ASU President, Ronnie Hawkins Jr. and his wife, Maria. The Hawkins proceeded to countdown the lighting of the tree at 6:30 p.m. On hand to do the honors were mascots, Roscoe dressed up in a Santa outfit while Bella donned ASU’s school colors.
After nearly 100 days as ASU’s president, Hawkins brief remarks reflected on the positive things in the Ram fan nation despite the pandemic. “I want to remind you to be safe during this holiday season. And please remember to be careful for each and every individual.”
As for representatives who wished the community a safe, happy and healthy holiday season, some of the following Ram organizations included: ASU National Cheer team, ASU handball Club, Baptist Student Ministry, ASU History Society, University Center Program Council, and the ASU Angelettes.
“From our Ram family to yours, may your holidays be merry and bright.”

SAN ANGELO – La ceremonia de encendido del árbol de Navidad 2020 de Angelo State University por primera vez en su breve historia de nueve años se llevó a cabo a través de una ceremonia virtual, en línea, debido a la pandemia.
Otro cambio importante y obvio tuvo lugar cuando el árbol anterior, de 15 pies de altura, fue reemplazado por uno nuevo de 23 pies que se dio a conocer en un lugar familiar: el Memorial Oak Grove frente al Edificio de Administración Mayer, en el 2601 de W. Ave. N.
La festividad en línea del 1 de diciembre de este año incluyó:
· Un concierto de Holiday Pops a cargo de miembros de la Orquesta Sinfónica de ASU. Parte de la música tradicional navideña que se tocó fue "A Suite of Carols", "Hark The Herald Angels Sing", "Silent Night", "O Little Town of Bethlehem" y "Away In A Manger".
Los mensajes navideños fueron pregrabados por funcionarios de ASU como el Dr. Javier Flores, Vicepresidente de Asuntos Estudiantiles e Inscripción, y el Teniente General (Retirado) y nuevo Presidente de ASU, Ronnie Hawkins Jr. y su esposa María. Los Hawkins procedieron a la cuenta regresiva de la iluminación del árbol a las 6:30 p.m. Para hacer los honores estaban las mascotas, Roscoe se vistió con un traje de Santa mientras Bella se puso los colores de la escuela de ASU.
Después de casi 100 días como presidente de ASU, los breves comentarios de Hawkins destacaron los aspectos positivos de la nación Ram a pesar de la pandemia. "Quiero recordarte que debes estar seguro durante esta temporada navideña. Y recuerde tener cuidado con todas y cada una de las personas ".
En cuanto a los representantes que desearon a la comunidad una temporada segura, feliz y saludable, se encuentran el Equipo Nacional de Porristas de ASU, Club de Handball de ASU, Ministerio Estudiantil Bautista, Sociedad de Historia de ASU, Consejo de Programas del Centro Universitario y las Angelettes de ASU .
